On July 1, Executive Technology Services, Inc. launched the Project Green Forever initiative in which ETS will spend a projected $250,000 in 2008 to increase energy efficiency both for itself and its clients.
Over the past 5 years, ETS has scaled significantly in which they now provide service to over 30 countries with over 400 technicians. However, this rapid growth has a resulted in a large “carbon footprint.” As stated by one of ETS’ corporate officers during a recent press conference, “ETS is taking an initiative and setting an example for other technology companies by doing their part to create a more sustainable world for future generations.”
By using new green technologies provided by ETS’ vendors such as IBM and Dell, ETS is able to drastically reduce the amount of power consumed by each organization. For example, if a customer was consider switching to energy efficient servers in a 25,000 square-foot-data center they stand to save as much as 42% on energy consumption.
The end result is huge savings for the company and the environment. As stated by IDC, “for every dollar spent on computer hardware, another 50 cents is spent on energy. This can be expected to increase to 71 cents by 2011.”
Project Green Forever is a new service offered provided by ETS to help their clients ensure that they are getting maximum efficiency out of their technology and in turn, preserving the environment.
With the help of vendors such as IBM, ETS will analyze the customer’s environment based on five components:
Diagnosis
Virtualization
Provisioning
Cooling
The process begins with a diagnosis of the customer’s existing facility including an energy assessment. Once the diagnosis phase is complete, ETS will help re-construct or update energy efficient data centers. The virtualization process allows companies to take advantage of new technologies such as IBM’s blade servers that will companies to save as much as “50% per port compared to typical rack-mounted server.” In the provisioning phase, customers will be introduced to a series of software applications that will help manage power distribution and cooling for the data center. In many cases, poor design and layout often contribute to large energy inefficiencies.
Executive Technology Services, Inc. is excited about the launch of this program. By making smart decisions and using more efficient, environment friendly technology, tech firms can now being to play a large part in creating a “greener planet” as mentioned by ETS CEO Dale Hersowitz during a recent interview.
